Dimitris Mastorakos was born in Athens and is a graduate of the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts of the School of Graphic Arts and Artistic Studies of T.E.I Athens, as well as the Economics Department of the Athens Law School. He also holds a Master’s degree, in Cultural Management, from the Department of Media Communication and Culture, Panteion University. As of September 2020, he is a PhD candidate at the University of Western Attica, in the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts.
As a speaker, he has participated in the following conferences:
2011: Participation in the conference of the Society for the Study of Cultural Otherness (E.M.P.E.), with the theme: “The Hereafter..in Art, Life” at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Athens as a speaker at the photography conference, with the theme “Looking for a place before… a place after’, or ‘The real in photography’.
2013: Participation in the conference of the Society for the Study of Cultural Diversity (EMPE), with the theme: “I choose … to Art, Life” at the Arts Center of the Municipality of Athens, as a speaker at the photography conference, with the theme: ” The moving point.. and the photo.
2014: Participation in the conference of the Society for the Study of Cultural Diversity (EMPE), with the theme: “Art and Madness”, at the “Melina Merkouri” Cultural Center, in the photography conference with the theme: “Enclosed spaces”.
2016: Participation in the 4th conference of “Acoustic Ecology”, on the topic: “Sound, Noise, Environment”, which took place at the University of the Aegean, Mytilini, from 3-6/11/2016, as a speaker on the topic: “The Noise as a common meeting place of the individual and the collective”.
He has also participated in group exhibitions of photography and visual arts in Greece and abroad.
His interest is focused on the theoretical approach to the photographic image, and its relationship with philosophy, psychoanalysis and semiology. At the same time, he deals with photographic techniques and representations, which allow the hidden, the random and the unknown to intrude. He works as a photography teacher in public IEK and private schools, as well as in the photography and audio-visual arts department of P.A.D.A., as an academic scholar.
