Nikos Apostolopoulos was born in 1955. He received his degree in Biology from the University of Athens in 1981. He specialized in Biological and Medical Photography at Sandwell College (UK) with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation. Since 1982 until today he has been a professional photojournalist and has collaborated with all the major daily newspapers and many magazines. He has written the books “MEDICAL PHOTOGRAPHY” (Ed.ION, 2004), “Cyclades-Dodecanese” (Bilingual Greek-English, Periph.N.Aegean, 2008). He has edited many book editions (“Akrites I-Kastelorizo”, New Media Art 2005, “The Little Paradises of the Aegean Sea”, Region of the Aegean, 2007, “Symmi”, New Media Art 2008), prints, posters, etc. Recently, his monograph “CAPTURING TIME – The Panorama of an Era” was published (New Media Art Publication-2018). He has edited and participated in dozens of exhibitions of artistic and news photography. Founding member of the Photojournalist Association of Greece. Member of the Hellenic Photographic Society. Director of the Center for Planning & Development of Cultural Activities. Founder of the artistic group “Zeuxis Art Group”. He was a member of the Ministry of Culture’s committee for honorary pensions for visual artists, a member of the Ministry of Culture’s Working Group for the National Center of Photography and a member of the Ephorate of the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography. He has developed particular activity in the field of protection of intellectual property in photography both at national and European level. He was a founding member and for many years General Director of the Photographers’ Copyright Protection Organization “PHIOVOS”, a founding member and currently President of the Pyramid of Greek Photographers and former Vice President of the Pyramid of Europe Group. He has been an educator at the Department for 28 consecutive years. Laboratory and Scientific Associate (1992-2007) and Permanent Professor of Applications (2008-2018). Since 2019, he has been elected Assistant Professor with the subject of “Photographic Essay”. He teaches the courses “Photographic Essay”, “Photojournalism” and “Stages of Video Production”.
