Dimitris Tzimas was born in Laista, in the district of Ioannina, in 1958. Having graduated from the Lyceum of Zosimaia School (Ioannina) in 1977 he studied Opticoacoustics and Cinema in Paris VIII University and received Licence (1981) and Maitrise (1982) degrees. Subsequently (1983) he obtained his Master’s (D.E.A.) degree in History of Photography (1983). In 1986 he concluded his academic studies by being awarded a PhD (Doctorat) for his dissertation “Photography in Greece during the 19th century. A critical description of its evolvement through the works of Greek and foreign photographers in a clearly defined social background.” Worked as a professional photographer from 1985 to 1995. Scientific papers of his have been published and presented in magazines and conventions. He has been the editor of many photographic publications and the author of “Dimitris Harisiadis. Photos” the first edition of which is out of print and the second revised edition will be republished shortly. He has contributed several articles in newspapers and magazines. In the period between 1987 and 2012 he was a full member of the Committee for recognition of Photography and Cinema University degrees at the relevant Authority (DIKATSA). He is the publisher of the long-standing (since 1989) Photographos magazine and a professor at the Photography School of PADA (University of West Attika) since 1985.
