He is born in Aegina, graduated from KATEE – TEI of Athens, holding a degree from the School of Graphic Arts and Artistic Studies. Having experience in the teaching and application of photography, Panagiotis Ilias has taught Photographic Techniques in the Departments of Decoration, Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art and Photography and Audiovisual Arts of the University of Western Attica since 1983, while he has also taught in private schools, in regional Centers of Municipality of Athens and the student club of the University of Athens. Since 2004 he has been a certified trainer of instructors in didactic of photography.
At the University of West Attica, he is a member of the teaching staff in the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts of the School of Applied Arts and Culture, while he is a founding member of the Scientific Laboratory ARTICON, concerning the field of photographic documentation.
In applied research he focuses on topics such as Practical Sensitometry, the use of computers in the teaching of photography, and others.
His articles have been published in scientific journals, on the internet and in proceedings of international conferences, while he has participated in photography exhibitions. He has been elected municipal councilor as candidate mayor of Aegina in the 2019 municipal elections.
