Project title : Absentin, 2022, Ioanna Spetzou

Description: The photographic series “Absentin” is proof that I have been a wanderer. It’s a calendar made up of four self-contained tracks/subsections that don’t conform to the “beginning-middle-end” tripartite. The resulting narrative relates less to place or time, but rather to a state of mind. Photography becomes a catalytic medium that allows me to come to terms with my constant desire for literal and inner wandering. The trees are bare, the landscape misty, and a pile of dry leaves bisects the path. It’s winter. Only a moment of sunlight is enough to reveal to me that I am really there, and defeated by space-time, I am in a primordial dialogue with the landscape. photographing not only my shadow but also the imaginary reflections of myself. The pictured figures turn into images in my mental mirror.

• The photographic series was carried out by the student of the department, in the context of the Curating and Publishing Subjects course under the guidance and supervision of the professors Ms. Natasha Mark

The photographic series was carried out by the student of the department, in the context of the course “Aesthetic Theories for photography” of the D semester, under the guidance and supervision of the professor Mrs. Io Pashou.

A few words about the project:

FallenMemories, Athens, 2023

A photograph captures a moment by preserving it in time. It imprisons the image and keeps it eternally alive, preventing its decomposition within the human mind. But the paper is perishable. It can be burned or torn and thus the image it represents is lost or transformed. Project using mixed media, between digital file and hand-damaged paper, creates an intermediate space between the wear and tear of human memories.
