Kostas Kolokythas was born in Patras, Greece in 1961 and grew up in Thessaloniki where he finished highschool.
He graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts Technology of Athens KATEE in 1983. He studied photography at the San Francisco Art Institute, where in 1986 he was awarded the title Bachelor of Fine Arts. He continued his studies at the Academy of Art University and in 1989 he was awarded the post-graduate degree Master of Fine Arts in photography.
From 1991 to 2004 he taught color photography as an adjunct lecturer in the Photography Department of Athens TEI and worked as a freelance photographer. From 2003 to 2005 he taught photography at the Department of Architecture at the University of Thessaly.
His photographic work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. Photographs of his belong to the permanent collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography.
In 2004 he was elected Lecturer, in 2008 Assistant Professor and in 2018 Associate Professor at the Department of Photography and Audiovisual Arts of the Univeristy of West Attica.
